District Level Coordination Meeting in Kavrepalanchwok

On 27 April 2014, coordination meeting was held in Kavrepalanchwok district with the participation of 29 participants from various sectors. Concerned stakeholders from the government and NGOs and CTIP implementing partners participated the program. Superintendent of Police Mr. Arun Kumar BC, head of District Police Office, Kavre; Mr. Nandi Kishor Tripathi, Assistant District Administration Officer, Kavre; Mr. Krishna Lal Piya, Acting Local Development Officer (LDO), and Advocate Mr. Ramesh Humagain, President of District Court Bar Unit of Kavre were the guests of the program.

The program participated by representatives from TPO Nepal, LACC, NTWG, WOREC and others presented their activities conducted in the fiscal year, program's strengths, challenges and future plan of action. The meeting highlighted that the awareness raising program has been very effective in the district. Arrest of kidney traffickers and they being prosecuted is one of the major achievements of CTIP in Kavre district discussed the participants. The well established coordination among the CTIP implementing partners and government bodies is another positive aspects of the program. The participants shared that reformation of 41 VDC level Committee to Combat Human Trafficking (VCCHT) has completed.

The participants discussed that women and girls' vulnerability to trafficking because of poverty is increasing in one hand and on the other, ratio of traffickers escaping legal action is increasing which is a challenge to the CTIP. Women and girls having poor economic condition are being trafficked in the name of foreign employment and emerging trend of human being trafficked for illegal kidney transplant is another challenge for CTIP.
