District level Coordination Meeting in Kathmandu


District level coordination meeting/interaction was held in the meeting hall of District Administration Office, Kathmandu with 33 individuals representing different government bodies, NGOs and CTIP implementing partners. Mr. Eak Narayan Aryal, Chief District Officer (CDO) of Kathmandu district chaired the program. Ms. Radhika Aryal, Joint secretary from Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare; Mr. Utam Kumar Karki, Superintendent of Police, Head of Metropolitan Police Range, Hanumandhoka; Mr. Tirtha Raj Bhattarai, Local Development officer (LDO) from Kathmandu; Ms. Sunita Nepal, Under secretary, Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare were the guests of the program. The program was facilitated by Ms. Jamuna Poudel, Women Development Officer of Women and Children's Office.

The program started with a short presentation by Ms. Sunita Nepal on the Implementation Plan of National Plan of Action on Human Trafficking especially trafficking of women and children. The presentation covered the major provisions of the implementation plan and the roles of the stakeholders.

The participants of the meeting expressed their concerns over NGOs' access to shelter homes established by the government, government's approval to the organizations to intervene in human trafficking issues, developing coordination among NGOs and concerned stakeholders for the rescue and monitoring of activities relating to anti human trafficking. The participants were of the view that effective advocacy, mass campaign, coordination and networking for combating human trafficking is needed and a mechanism need to be developed so as to end duplication.
