District Stakeholder’s Coordination Meeting

A district level coordination meeting was held on 19 April 2012 among the stakeholders in Dhulikhe, Kavre. The program was participated by the CDO, WDO, police, and registrar of the district court, district government attorney, representative form INSEC, LACC, NTWG and others. There were a total of 39 participants in the meeting. In the meeting Mr. David Arnold, the president of The Asia Foundation (TAF), who paid a short visit to Nepal was also present.

The program had a focus on labor trafficking as well as overall review of anti human trafficking activities in Kavre district especially in Hokse VDC. Two papers were presented and discussion was held. Paper entitled “Problem of Labor Trafficking in Nepal and Precautionary Measures in Foreign Employment” incorporating the experiences the presenter gained during his stay in Qatar. During his presentation he explained the sufferings of Nepali in the destination countries and also presented recommendation for safe migration. The other paper detailed the activities conducted to combat human trafficking in the district and its effects. The presenters highlighted that in spite of the commitment from both the government and non government it has been difficult to bring the culprit within the law and provide relief to the victims.

The participants of the meeting expressed that they received in-depth information on labor trafficking and requested to disseminate such information in every village. The meeting recommended that an Information Desk should be established within the District Administration Office targeting the people who come to make passport to go for foreign employment.
