District Level Coordination Meeting among Stakeholders

District level coordination meeting/interaction was held in the premises of District Administration Office in Kathmandu on 30 July 2015 with individuals representing different government bodies, NGOs and CTIP implementing partners. Mr. Eak Narayan Aryal, Chief District Officer (CDO) of Kathmandu chaired the program and  Joint secretary from Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare; Superintendent of Police, Head of Metropolitan Police Range, Hanumandhoka; Local Development officer (LDO) from Kathmandu; Under secretary, Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare were the guests of the program.


The meeting discussed on the policy adopted by the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare after devastating April 25 earthquake to protect women and children; ways to enhance capacity to handle the vulnerable situation of women and children post the earthquake especially relating to human trafficking; formation of local committee on anti-human trafficking; work done by District Natural Disaster Rescue Committee and sharing among partners the initiatives taken by them to improve the situation of women, children and persons with disabilities after the earthquake.


Mr. Aryal, CDO of Kathmandu district stated that all partners are collaborating and doing their level best to address the problem and the District Natural Disaster Rescue Committee is also working for children and women after the earthquake as Protection Cluster. The participants of the meeting felt the need of proper information sharing and everyone's access to information and capacity building training for vulnerable group for financial independence. The participants discussed that rather than investing on software (meeting, workshop, seminars etc.) focus should be shifted to hardware (construction work, building infrastructures etc.) I n the post disaster situation and raising awareness among women is in dire need as most of the survivors/victims are ignorant of laws due to which illegal acts have been reported in the quake hit zones such as trafficking of women, children. All the stakeholders/partners should come under one umbrella i.e. of the GoN and work in collaboration and in a coordinated manner viewed the participants of the meeting.
