Orientation on Victim Witness Protection to Court Officials

One day orientation program was organized on December 18, 2015 for the court officials of Makwanpur District Court in Makwanpur. Survivors/witnesses of human/kidney trafficking who come into contact with the criminal justice system are particularly vulnerable and require special measures be taken to ensure that they are appropriately assisted and protected by criminal justice processes. In the course of dealing with the court officials it is realized that such measures are lacking whereas victims and witnesses may be reluctant to provide information and evidence because of perceived or actual intimidation or threats to themselves or their family members. Therefore to address this lacking the orientation on victims witness protection was organized. Honorable Hari Kumar Pokhrel, Judge of Appellate court of Makwanpur and Advocate Mr. Mukunda Prasad Adhikari presented papers on legal aspects of Victim and Witness protection. Honorable Mr. Pokhrel's paper dealt more with practical aspects whereas Mr. Adhikari's paper focused more on theoretical aspects.
