Training for Police on Combating Human Trafficking

Two days training on Combating Human Trafficking for police personnel was organized from 30-31 August 2012 in the training hall of Metropolitan Police Training Centre in Maharajgunj. The program was organized by PPR Nepal in collaboration with the Metropolitan Police Training Centre and supported by USAID and TAF.

The training participated by 17 police sub inspectors and assistant sub inspectors covered topics on the concept of human trafficking, victim witness protection, investigation of human trafficking, use of scientific tools and techniques on the investigation process in the human trafficking cases.

The participants found the two days training very useful and informative while investigating human trafficking cases. The participants expressed their concern that such type of training program and interactions should be regularly conducted for police personnel and government attorneys so as to get updated and fight against such crime as investigation process against this organized crime is very weak. Superintendent of Police Mr. Bishwo Niranjan Pradhan and Deputy Superintendent of Police Mr. Pradeep Shrestha observed the training sessions and also interacted with the participants. The program was inaugurated by Ms. Nandita Baruah, Chief of Party, TAF and Mr. Rajendra Ghimire, Executive Director of PPR Nepal and SP Mr. Pradhan highlighted on the importance and wish for successful completion of the training.
