Basic Mediation Training, Tilottama Municipality, Rupandehi

Basic Training on Mediation was organized in Tilottama Municipality of Rupandehi district from 6 to 13 March 2019. The training was organized by Tilottama Municipality with the assistance of PPR and participated by 27 individuals (F-9 and M-18) of different backgrounds. Dr. Kumar Sharma Acharya (Chairperson, Commission for Law Drafting and Recommendation of Province 5) as the lead trainer and trainers Mr. Khumananda Poudel (member, Commission for Law Drafting and Recommendation of Province 5) and Mr. Satish Kumar Sharma Dil Bahadur Shrestha facilitated the training sessions. The 48 hours training covered topics on traditional dispute resolution methods and its advantages, various methods of dispute resolution, importance and need of Mediation and international practices of mediation. Importance of communication skills during mediation was also discussed in the training. The training comprised of topics on role, responsibility and quality of a mediator, basic rules of negotiation, national laws relating to mediation, different step (1-7) in Mediation. Each theoretical topic was followed by role play with the help of which the participants get the opportunity to practice the knowledge. The training also comprised of topics on basic elements of mediation, psychological aspects in mediation, process after mediation, ZOPA, BATNA, WATNA, Dirty Tricks, facilitation skills each followed by role play. The participants also practiced skills to use Appreciative Inquiry and art of questioning.
