Refresher Training on Mediation, Baijnath Rural Municipality, Banke

Refresher Training on Mediation was organized in Krishna Kamal Cottage of Baijnath Rural Municipality of Banke district from 18 to 21 April 2019. The training was organized by Baijnath Rural Municipality with the assistance of PPR and participated by 29 individuals (F-18and M-11) of different background scovering ward no. 5, 6, 7 and 8 of Baijnath RMC. Mr. Satish Sharma as the lead trainer and Mr. Bhanubhakta Rijal, Mr. Basudev Juwali, Mr. Jhabindra Prasad Poudel ad Ms. Sharada Regmi Biwhokarma facilitated the training.

In the 4 days training, the participants shared their experiences while mediating disputes and challenges they faced. The participants were divided into groups and role played so as to review the mediation process and to use the knowledge they adopted post the basic training. After the role play participants were provided feedbacks by the training facilitators. The major topic covered in the refresher training was to identify interest, position, claim and option generation. Cultural and psychological aspects in mediation were also discussed in the training sessions. Topics on responsibility and jurisdiction of judicial committee and disputes that can be dealt by the committee, questioning skills were also discussed. Barriers and obstacles during mediation and its solution were other topics covered in the training. Group role play was performed based on option generation, value creation and additional skills required in mediation. Communications skills, additional skills and tools of mediation, gain-gain theory and its usage and advantaged were covered in the training. The participants also practiced skills to use Appreciative Inquiry. Social justice, gender equality, social inclusion and women's human rights; psychosocial problems, its causes, effects and basic communication skills of psychosocial counseling was also discussed. The participants were also explained about mediators' code of conduct.
